Litter Robot LRII ECO Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box Gray

Litter Robot LRII - Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box, Gray
The Litter Robot is the automatic, self cleaning litter box for cats 'that really works'. No special waste receptacles or bags are needed, and this ECO version is made using recycled plastic, making it a method of keeping your cat happy. When your cat enters the litter chamber (globe) a weight activated sensor detects the presence of your cat. After 7 minutes a clean cycle starts with the slow rotation of the globe in a counter-clockwise direction. The rotation of the globe sifts and separates clumps from the clean litter (clumping litter) and deposits all waste in the large capacity drawer lined with a standard kitchen garbage bag. The globe then returns to its home position with a clean, level bed of litter ready for the next use. The Litter Robot has no rakes or wires to jam, clog, or break. Its simplicity and durable construction ensure a long life of service. The Litter Robot operates on 12VDC and is easy to set up - just add litter to the globe and plug it in.

- I've been using the Littler Robot Eco Edition for about a week. Let me say that first off the notion that your house will smell better is rubbish. This thing stinks like any other litter box. The waste isn't delivered into some hermetically sealed container where the smell doesn't escape. It's just a plastic bin.

It also still requires work just like any other litter box. I take that back, not like any other litter box. You have to clean the dome, you have to clean the rubbish bin.

Does this save you money? I don't think so. It uses electricity which a normal litter box does not use. It also still uses litter. And so far it seems to use more litter. Although my cats are still curious so they maybe contributing to the litter issue. It uses electricity.

There's also the potential for break down. And purchasing the replacement parts are going to be more than buying a new litter box.

On the positive side I haven't had any mechanical/electronic issues. The thing does clean itself. But overall I can think of plenty of things that are a better value.

- We've had this unit since April 2010 and it was worth every penny. Our two cats LOVE it. We've tried other expensive automated litter boxes and they break down after a while. We live in a typical NYC apt. and the unit is a godsend. I have it set up in a corner of the living room and have had no odor issues. We use the ScoopAway litter with it. Only issues we've had: once in a while a clump of the litter will get trapped on top of the sensory wire in the drawer but that's an easy fix. We've had an issue with a slight gap in the waste port doors which allow small amounts of litter to trickle out. I called the company and they sent me a replacement globe free of charge. The customer service is fantastic! I suggest purchasing the fence and the lip extender with your unit.

- This product changed my life. I love cats and hate dealing with litter. We have to keep the cat box in the kids' bathroom and we would often come home to stinky surprises that filled the house with smell.

I did a lot of research. I tried and failed to toilet train our 6mo old cat. I looked at the CatGenie, but the looong cleaning cycle, required supplies, and danger of flooding made me realize it is a terrible idea.

The rake boxes are a ridiculous, messy joke.

I researched the Litter Robot thoroughly and selected the World's Best Cat Litter-- I introduced it a few days in the old box. Nice, and minimal dust. Expensive, but with the LR I use about a pint every week for my single cat.

At first, he kept setting off the box because he was curious, and would interrupt the cleaning until it defaulted for safety. A quick reboot would fix this-- while I was concerned, he gave this up after about 4 days and got bored.

Also, he would kick out some litter. Well, I snapped on the *included* door lip thingy, problem solved! Glad they include this accessory now.

I change the bag about every 3 days in the summer here, it is nowhere near full but, even though there is no smell til you open the drawer, I don't like to leave poop in there too long. They did remove the stair holes, at least on the ECO model, which used to let odor escape from what I read. Now it only smells when you open it to change out the bag.

Clean litter at all times, no fuss or nasty little clumps in the litter. It always looks like the litter is brand new. I like the WBCL with this machine.

Quality construction and, from what I hear, excellent service should you need it a few years down the road.

I never notice the noise anymore, though at night it is separated by a door. However, it would be music to my ears! The noise really isn't bad.

I love Amazon but recommend you purchase through the company-- same price and no warranty hassles.

I am convinced that this is the BEST option out there, and is well worth the hefty price. Wish I had purchased one years ago. If your cat takes to this box, it is a godsend. If not, the company offers 90-day money back (you pay shipping).

Pros: Well made, fairly quiet, no special supplies, an acclimated cat will LOVE it. No more scooping litter, and no messing with quirky, flawed mechanisms. You will save on litter as it does not get all gross... it really is amazing, at least with one of the recommended litters.

Cons: Tall. Fussy cats may refuse it, but this is not fault of the machine and reviewers should not penalize based on fussy cats. May be difficult for older or disabled cats. If your cat is huge consider the bubble model.

If you are on the fence, please try one. I wish I had sooner. I also wish the two cats I used to own had one of these.
