- This cage is nice for the money. It's roomy and well made. However, it took me about 2 hours to put it together. It's a bit tedious to get together....especially the "poop" side guards and the initial side pieces. A side door would have been a nice addition, as my Amazon had one on her last cage that she really loved. And the door opens low to the ground, which might be of concern to people with cats or dogs (that may get curious with such a low opening). All in all a decent cage, but not perfect.

- Great cage for the price. Very sturdy for my Grey. Castors roll easily. Only thing I wish it had was a door for a breeding box. Very easy to assemble by yourself.

- I recently bought the Prevue "Penthouse" which is Prevue's model # 3153 cage. It was shipped in two very large cartons and there was a delay of a few days between their delivery. That said, I have no other complaints with this cage - It is well built, heavy duty, has a nice finish (I chose the Sage color) and my Congo African Grey parrot LOVES it. It is situated in my living room and I can happily report that it looks quite attractive there. My bird inspected it very carefully - being the sort of bird who inspects EVERYthing carefully, and after he had made his full rounds and peered at every joint and corner, rewarded me with many songs and bird call imitations to let me know I had done a good thing by giving him this wonderful new "bedroom".

Features I especially like...

The variety of colors that Prevue's cages offer are very pleasing and complement most decor.

The cage is well constructed and the metal is substantial without appearing "heavy". It went together easily.

It is large and roomy for the bird.

The easy outside access, non spillable, food and water dishes will be a godsend for timid petsitters.

The seed guards and easily cleanable droppings trays, keep mess to a minimum.

The playtop is a great place for a bird to spend time outside the cage, high enough for it to feel safe enough to relax, and to give it a grand view from which to peruse it's surroundings, Low enough for even a short owner (I'm 5'1") to be able to deal with the bird and it's needs easily.

The large dishes are so deep the bird can't throw them off the playtop (a favorite trick of my parrot).

The bars are set to allow the parrot to move easily through the cage - even using the top to hang upside down... yet are spaced close enough together (3/4") that there can be no unexpected nips to anyone passing by.

I think this is a great cage at an affordable price. I would recommend it as a Happy choice.

    - The product shipped has a U shaped bottom of the door, not squared off as in the pictures. It is a bit hard to see, but there is a crossbar directly below it. While this appears harmless, my dog was able to fit its head in there and choked to death. DO NOT BUY THIS KENNEL!

    - The final dimensions of this product after being put together is 6.5 feet by 10 feet long. Not 12 feet long as advertised...so it was much smaller than anticipated.

    - It was easy to put together and my dog loves it she is a big dog and it keeps her in so she can be outside i love this product.

    - The price was definitely right, and shipping was quick, but the unit is constructed of pressboard with a veneer. Several of the corners were noticeably chipped and the finish was not good - too many gaps. some trim pieces on the doors were not glued well. the unit went together fairly easily in a couple hours, but with so many gashes, nicks, and gaps it has to go back to the manufacturer (which has only an email address for correspondence - no phone number to be found. still waiting for a reply...

    - The nest easily accomodated our 10 puppies for the critcal first weeks. They spent all their sleeping time huddled on it and it meant we didn't have to fiddle with heat lamps or heat that part of the house to 90 degrees. Would have been 5 stars if more reasonably priced

The installation instructions were easy to follow, and the thermostat worked just as advertised.

    - A must have for any whelping box. Keeps puppies safely warm without heating lamps etc. Pups gravitate to the whelp nest for the first few weeks. Highly recommended!

CatGenie Self Washing Self Flushing Cat Box

CatGenie-Self Washing, Self Flushing Cat Box
Never touch cat litter again. The new and unique CatGenie self-flushing, self-washing cat box grants the cat lover's wish to never scoop, touch, buy or change cat litter again. Instead of traditional litter, the high-tech CatGenie uses permanent Washable Granules that never need changing. For cats, CatGenie is just like using a clean litter box. The Washable Granules satisfy your cat's need to dig and cover. When your cat goes, liquids drain through the Granules, which don't clump or create waste. Touch a button or pre set the timer to start the wash cycle. The solid waste is automatically scooped, liquefied, and flushed down the drain. Using water and the veterinarian-approved SaniSolution, the CatGenie scours and sanitizes the Granules and cat box interior to eliminate germs and odors. A built-in dryer blows hot air over the Granules to dry them for your cat's comfort. The CatGenie acts like a cat box, washes and dries like an appliance, and flushes waste out of the home like a toilet. A one-time, DIY connection to a cold-water supply line from a sink, toilet, or laundry and you're set. T-adapters for laundry or bath are supplied. CatGenie is the only automatic cat box that's just like your cat, completely self-washing.

    - The litter box seemed like a dream, and we thought so many people couldn't be wrong. We were wrong!

One of our two cats refused to use it, but as the other did, we were still pretty happy -- for the first month.

After that, we ran into problems. The cycle would never run without an error -- either the one beep that the cartridge was low (usually when it wasn't), or beeps for a drainage problem (when we checked the lines and found no problems), or other problems. We cleaned the sensors, replaced practically full cartridges, replaced the granules (the cat kept trailing them out of the CatGenie), etc.

We have been working on this thing for months now, trying to get it to work again, to no avail. The sensors, the hoses, the granules, the cleaning cartridges, etc., everything in the maintenance manual has been checked and double checked and triple checked and quadruple checked, nothing.

We were determined to figure out the problem and make this work, so that we hadn't wasted a small fortune on something that we've had for such a short period of time, but it's just not working.

We're going back to our much less expensive automated scooper, with great joy and happiness at how much LESS work and less frustration we are going back to -- not to mention happier cats!

    - Not wanting to deal with cat poop will leave you with these options:

    1. Get rid of the cat, or cats:

Most people will not want to use this option since cats are cool companions who look after themselves most of the time, show you love, lower your blood pressure and other great benefits.

    2. Let the cats out of the house to poop:

This option is used by some but cats sometimes run away or get hurt or killed when this option is used, and any pet lover who has had this happen to them would not wish it upon anyone.

    3. Scoop the poop into a regular cat-box with scooper:

This is a good option for someone who has OCD who can scoop poo and pee enough times in a day where the cat-box is actually clean. Also not very environmentally friendly since all this litter winds up in a landfill somewhere.

    4. Use another cat-box machine besides the Cat Genie:

Used one of these boxes for a long time for my first cat. They work but still involve cat litter and the eventual hauling it away. If you get lazy about removing the scooped up pee and poop you wind up again with a mess that's worse than option 3.

    5. Purchase the Cat Genie

This is by far the best option. I bought this product after my first cat died and my wife decided to get two cats to replace him. I saw it on Amazon and thought that it was very intriguing of a product, it arrived a couple of days later and I quickly set it up relishing the thought of my litter hauling days being over. IMPORTANT NOTE: Read the acclimation instructions before doing anything else. Mistake 1: One of the cats (Jazz) took to it immediately, unknown to me the other one didn't (Jade). Thinking that the Cat Genie was being used I tossed the old cat box away, then realized that Jade was pooping away from the box, I quickly put the old box back and now no poop on the floor. Mistake 2: Wanting the cats to use the $300 cat box caused me to try to place Jade into the box, who quickly ran away. I then decided to read the instructions and found that what I did were big NO-NO's. Now both cats didn't use the new machine and I was quickly getting disappointed. Fast forward a couple of months later Jazz was using both boxes with Jade using the old one only. The instructions had me try to not clean the old box until the cats used the new one, this was really a bad time since the odor was overwhelming but it didn't work since Jade just refused to use the Cat Genie. Another issue popped up, the Cat Genie itself now refused to work properly, it kept beeping three times and stopping at the end of a wash. Another error was that water would not dispense and clean the litter but the drying cycle would go on for about 30 minutes on the pee coated litter before stopping, this had an effect of filling the home with a very bad odor. I called their tech support and they had me clean the machine, but the error persisted and eventually they sent me a new processor. With the Cat Genie now working properly, I noticed that it was being used and decided to try the 'not cleaning the old box' trick again, this time it worked. I gradually removed the old pee and poop until nothing was left, and since the house smelled great I am now convinced that both cats are using this great machine. It took about 8 months for both cats to use the Cat Genie but I am so happy that I don't have to deal with cat litter again the benefits outweigh the issues I had with it and I couldn't live without this device.

Note: I think that the processor unit got fried during a bad storm, so get a good surge protector or even better a battery-backup.

    - I love gadgets, and this is a great one. But it still has problems:

    1) It's very expensive

    2) The motor unit we originally got broke, and they had to send us another one that was not new but rebuilt. And they made us pay for the $100 shipping costs.

    3) Customer Service isn't that great.

    4) When the scooper misses some cat feces, it really stinks up the place.

    5) I felt abandoned when the old model was replaced with the new model. there is an upgrade option, but you don't really save that much money. You might as well just get a new one.

    6) Had several technical issues, but ultimately discovered you have to clean the water sensor once every 2 weeks or so to avoid the incessant beeping.

    7) replacement litter and cartridges are expensive. That's where they get you too.

Despite this, overall I think it's worth it. But my girlfriend thinks it is okay. If you are a guy, you'll love it because it's cool gadget. If you have boyfriend, make him fix it when it breaks.

On another positive note. Using regular cat litter takes a lot of resources. It is essentially a big mining industry, and has many negative environmental consequences to our natural resources. Using cat genie will minimize your impacts

However, if your sewage drains in a coastal area with otters, your cats may be infecting otters with lethal disease called Toxoplasma gondii. See this link for details: [...]. So I wouldn't get it if your sewage drains into an area with otters. Do research first.

Also, be responsible and keep your cats indoors. Cats kill millions of wild birds each year. See link for details: [...]
